About

CANDICE MADEY, New York is a contemporary art gallery with two locations off the Bowery in New York that presents emerging, mid-career, and established artists. A driving force behind the new gallery is a spirit of collaboration and experimentation—frequently working with partner organizations in novel financial and exhibition models to create wider exposure for the gallery’s artists. The gallery represents the Estate of Darrel Ellis, an artist active in the 1980s who died of AIDS-related complications, and the gallery actively explores the social backdrop of Ellis's work through historically oriented exhibitions.

Gallery owner Candice Madey is also a co-founder of Second Floor Salon at 1 Rivington with architect Koray Duman of Buro Koray Duman. The salon hosts intimate public and private events in the gallery that encourage dialogue among artists, architects, writers, musicians, and thinkers.

We are open to the public Tuesday–Saturday, 11am to 6pm, and by appointment. The gallery is on the second floor in a building without an elevator and is therefore not handicap accessible. Please contact us if we can offer extra assistance for your visit.
